 Advanced English for Journalists

Advanced English for JournalistsYes, you speak good English in your job.  But have you found there is room for improvement?  Can you follow fast exchanges of conversation, understand the “spin” of a government spokesman, ask the penetrating question that gets you new information?

Advanced English for Journalists runs one or two week courses in Edinburgh and elsewhere in Scotland especially designed by and taught by journalists.   We will concentrate on your spoken English and the English you need in your job.  We will read the UK papers, the source of many of the new expressions and colloquialisms.  We will discuss the news and aim to expand your working vocabulary by 10 to 20 words and phrases every day. We will concentrate on those areas of English that need a bit of work, get you talking and help build your confidence on the job.

We also run weekend seminars for specialists wanting to master the English used in areas such as energy or finance.

Our programmes run for groups of eight to 10 journalists.  Weekend seminars are designed for smaller groups of five or six.    Our trainers are journalists with over 20 years of teaching journalism at university level between them.

We are taking bookings for programmes in March and May 2009.  Discounts are offered for groups sponsored by, say, national or regional journalism associations or organisations. Programmes must reach the required number to run.

Individual costs for one week seminars (without travel or accommodation) are £500 (€ 625).
